"Understanding themselves and their place in the world is important to INFPs,” I live better when I know what I mean to people, where I stand in importance to them. Whether it is from a teacher to me as a student, a team leader to me as a colleague, or a friend to me as a friend. When I'm not sure what I mean to someone, I tend to stop interacting with them and just watch from the sidelines. I don’t do this on purpose. There's just something that subconsciously pushes me away from that person. I like constant reassurance, but I won't ask for it, and that really makes it hard for said person to figure out what going on, why I'm acting so different, and sometimes I wont even notice its happening.
I had a best friend in the 7th grade; we were as close as could be. We basically lived in each other’s pockets, and it was great because we knew that we were each other’s number 1's. 8th grade was the same way, but then high school started. We started to stop inviting each other places and we didn't text each other as much. We stopped sleeping over each other’s house so much, and it was really hard for me. I didn't say anything about it though, because she was always reassuring me that I was still number 1 to her. Sophomore year came and first semester was just fine, but then I transferred to her school second semester and that’s when everything came crumbling down. I tried to hang out with her and her crowd, but I just didn't fit in and she never made any effort to meet me halfway. The hanging out outside of school totally stopped, and the texting only happened when we needed something from each other. Now there was no reassurance, and I had no idea what I meant to her anymore. So I drifted away and in this case, she didn't stop me. I haven't talked to her in 8 months, and its really crap.
"INFPs will focus their attention on just a few people, a single worthy cause - spread too thinly they'll run out of energy, and even become dejected and overwhelmed by all the bad in the world that they can't fix.” Aside from not agreeing that” I only focus my attention on a few people, a single worthy cause”, the rest of it is true. I bite off more than I can chew sometimes. I commit myself to things and people, rarely ever saying no, without considering me. How am I going to feel? How am I going to react? I like to think myself a very empathetic person, and sometimes, at the end of the day, it can absolutely 100% drain me. I cry when people cry, and I laugh when people laugh, and it can take a lot out of me. Like I said, I don't agree that I focus my attention on a select few and with that comes feeling a lot of different things all the time. There are so many people that are so important to me, and obviously they're never all feeling the same way and I like to be there for as many of them as I can. When I can't help someone, when I can't find a solution to something, when I feel that I didn't make a situation better but maybe even worse it make me feel sad, and isolated and, well, dejected.
One time, I went Christmas shopping and I gave away about $35 to homeless people. Of course at the moment it made me smile to see them smile, and I felt good about myself. But at the end of the day, when I just sat and thought about it, I felt 100 times worse. It made me realize that there are thousands of people cold and hungry and alone, and I sat there and cried, because at some point I actually thought I had made a difference. I was wrong, and realizing how wrong I was just made me feel horrible.
"If they are not careful, INFPs can lose themselves in their quest for good and neglect the day-to-day upkeep that life demands.” “Left unchecked, INFPs may start to lose touch, withdrawing into 'hermit mode’,” That’s all pretty self explanatory, and its all pretty much me down to a T.
Now the test results list quite a few strengths, e.g.: idealistic, seek and value harmony, open-minded and flexible, very creative, passionate and energetic, and dedicated and hardworking. It also lists some weaknesses, e.g.: too idealistic, too altruistic, impractical, dislike dealing with data, take things personally, and difficulty to get to know. Now I, without a doubt, agree with the weakness but I don't know if I would say that I’m creative, energetic, or hard working. There’s always a place and time for everything I suppose.
I honestly have no idea how "knowing myself" more now will help or hinder me answering the E.Q. because its not like I discovered all these new things about myself. All this stuff I relatively already knew, and even having these things reiterated to me doesn’t make me feel like I know myself any better. I’m always going to be a little different; I’m always going to be changing. So it’s really hard for me to say what’s going to come in handy and what’s going to hold me back. I just really have no clue.
